Bastille Day is celebrated at Cap d’Agde over an entire week in the middle of July. There are five nights of fireworks, held at five different sites around the resort. If that’s not enough excitement for you, the fireworks spectaculars continue every weekend through to the end of August. One fireworks display even “blazes up” historic Fort Brescou, which stands just off the coast!

The city of Agde also makes the most of the summer months, holding light and sound shows on the banks of the Hérault River, shows that tell fantastical narratives using a combination of music, drama and stunning lighting effects. Six such shows are presented in July and August, so you’re certain to catch one during your summer stay.

The fun doesn’t end there. Cap d’Agde is just as committed to preserving local traditions and festivals as it is to presenting state-of-the-art entertainment. Throughout summer there are nautical jousting events, where teams of knights do battle on the river, riding specially designed jousting boats.

Cap d’Agde in France also hosts festival days honoring the patron saint of fishermen, St. Pierre, and more somber remembrances of those lost at sea. These festivals are regularly attended by local residents, and as such are a very special way to authentically experience life in a French coastal town.

So, whenever you decide to take your holiday at Cap d’Agde, you can be certain there will be something to celebrate.
